I can't hear you.
Published on May 19, 2005 By Danny Bassette In Health & Medicine
I can't hear. Sometime in the middle of the night my left ear went funny and now I can't hear out of it. It sort of feels like there is a pillow over it, is very odd. No pain, but no hearing either. Right ear feels ok, although it feels a bit odd too. I think that's because there is no more stereo but I can't be sure. So I get to go to the doctors in a few hours so they can poke me and prod me and tell me nothing is wrong (updates when/if I have news to share)

Hope everything will be ok with your ear Danny. That happened to my husband once, guess what it was? A roach crawled into his ear! We lived in NY at the time. You can imagine the surprise at the doctor's office after he administered the drops and drained his ear! Hope that's not it for you though and it's nothing serious.

Doc's always tell us to never put anything in your ear (except your elbow). Undoubtedly you will go to the Dr. and the first thing they will do is poke something in you ear.

Hopefully it will clear up!

Back from the doctors visit, all went well. Turns out my ear was all clogged up with wax. Both of them were, just the left was worse off then the right. So the nice nurse squirted hot water into my ear until the wax came out, and I can hear again. Well mostly at least, she got the wax out of my left ear, but my right still has some in it. So I went in with one ear not working and the other working poorly. I left with one ear working fine and the other a little better. Got a squishballplungerthingy and will squirt more water in my ear later to clear it up more.
All in all, much improved now.

Drug stores sell a solution designed to soften ear wax and flush it out. I use it about once a month to keep the ear canals nice and clean. It comes in a kit along with the "squishballplungerthingy" aka a syringe.

The solution works far better than warm water alone. Just tell the druggist what you need and he can fix you up.

Yep, debrox was what the doctor told me it was called, even got some. Probably do some more squirting tomorrow, let my ears dry out first

Good for you Danny. Glad it was only wax! (enough to wax your floor with - sorry I couldn't resist!)

I hate that debrox stuff. Yucky. I tend to have the same problem. My ears LOVE to make wax. I'm glad to hear that you didn't have an ear infection, which would definitely be worse.

(Having your ears irrigated sucks, too)

Poor danny.

Glad to hear that you can hear again...and there's things like Q-Tips you can buy to clean the wax out of your ears with, yanno. I clean mine every day, just because I can't stand having wet wear canals after I get out of the shower.

I agree, was good it was just wax. And it is reassuring to hear that I'm not the only one with crazy waxed ears. I didn't mind having my ears irrigated. It wasn't exactly pleasant, but it wasn't uncomforatble either. Was interesting, a new experience and all.

Hey there Danny, glad you're ok! When I read the first post of yours, I was rather alarmed as you're so young still. Only us
old fogies are supposed to have hearing problems!! Take care of yourself now, we care about ya.

Danny,, please help me, please?? sorry for intruding on your thread, I need helpj! I put a link ( I thought) to a pic of my
dad and grampa and instead put the whole big pic on mly blog and now I can't even get to My Account to remove it!
Please help!

Not sure why you can't get to the my account options, but if you were to delete the picture from the server it is on (making sure to keep a copy on your computer for replacing once things get fixed) then it wounld't be messing up your sidebar anymore. As for not being able to get into your account, this link should take you to your account. But the option to get into the sidebar isn't always there, sometimes you have to logoff/on for it to show up (and sometimes it just won't show up, bad servers). From what is shown on your blog I would guess your url included img src, but it definetly came out oddly. The rest of your blog is there, you just have to scroll sideways for it. I hope this helps somewhat.

Oh thank you Danny!!! I'll try everything you've recommended and see if
I can rectify this!

Old fogies only? I don't think so. I have hearing loss due to severe ear infections as a child. The finally put tubes in my ears. Apparently, I used to hold on to my dad's pants leg and walk behind him while he tilled the garden. I loved the dirt between my toes. After the tubes, and my returned hearing, I followed dad, he started up the tiller, and I shrieked and ran into the house. I had never heard the tiller before. Now, I can't differentiate low sounds, high pitch sounds make my right ear feel like a butterfly with claws has gone nuts in my inner ear, and my balance is still wonky.

The moral? If your young child has ear infections a lot, GET THEM TAKEN CARE OF!!!! I know one little boy with severe hearing loss becuase his parents wouldn't put tubes in his ears, and a cousin who is pretty much completely deaf because of them.

But Danny is lucky. I'm glad things worked out for you. That must have been kinda scary to wake up with lost hearing.

And a big Eeeeewwwww on the roach thing. *shudder*

Funny story, I wonder what your dad was thinking when you ran away. And I might not be so lucky, I can't hear out of my right ear today. Maybe the funny ear wax drops will help, maybe I'll go deaf. Time will tell...
