Too Many Windows
Published on March 9, 2005 By Danny Bassette In Blogging
Right now I've got over a dozen windows open. And it's doubtful that the number wlll go down much before friday.
One of the windows is a download that I don't want to stop because I'd have to restart it and it would have to reindex everything and it would be bothersome. So I want to let it run until it's done. But that probably won't happen until sometime thursday. It worked all day yesterday, is a little under half done, so working all day today should leave it a small amount to finish thursday.
Normally this wouldn't be a problem, I don't mind leaving things run that long. Except another two of the windows open are from a program I installed that is now wanting me to restart my computer. So I have to not click those until the download is done.
Then there is the stuff that is always open, like firefox and the various instant messaging things (shameful advertisement: one of which is the JoeUser irc channel at stardock). A handful of folders opened for one reason or another. And of course notepad for writing this
Ooooh, just realized I can close some of the folders, I finished what I was doing in them. That puts the total open windows at nine, one of which is this article. So once I post it I'll be down to eight, that's so much better, eight doesn't resize each other in the taskbar.
And yes, I do realize this is all silly
Update: Because of oddness with joeuser I'm having to repost this, so update for anyone that cares. I'm down to seven windows open, go me

That is the beauty of the "Tile Windows" function of WindowFX. I middle click on the title bar and my windw shrinks to a little 100x100 square that I can drag anywhere on the window. Very handy when using lots of windows. Or, you can always go with virtual desktops, makes working with many windows much more manageable.

There's a game I like to play called "How Many Windows Can I Open Before I Crash the System?"

Yes, I really do play that game and yes I really do call it that. Try it sometime. It's fun.

BlueDev: It's not that I couldn't work with them or stuff like that, but that too many of them I couldn't close because they were doing stuff I wanted to get done before closing the ones that would restart the computer. But all better now (actually thursday like expected, but who's counting )
xtine: Would any window count or can they not all be the same thing? Find the right program and you could probably open a few hundred, if not thousand. Or you could open two really big programs that don't like each other and crash it right there. Well whatever keeps you entertained
