I Like Silly Acronyms
Small Minor Insignificant Rant
Published on January 9, 2005 By Danny Bassette In Blogging
So I use the watchlist alot, I'll admit it. Seems like a good way to keep track of when articles I want to pay attention to are updated. Works well too, at least most of the time. But there is some oddness to it.
I read the articles on Joeuser.com, not wincustomize, politicalmachine, galciv, etc. At least, I don't intentionally, but sometimes the watchlist email links to other places. Most commonly it links to the articles blog (ie username.joeuser.com) but links to the forums are common too (www.joeuser.com/forums.stuff).
This is all good, I can handle this too. But where I have problems is when the links go elsewhere. For a while there wincustomize links wouldn't work, I'd get server not found or some such error. Only happened for stardock employees though. But that fixed itself in time, good work Draginol and co. And the links to politicalmachine and such work fine too, just look a little different. The big problem is links to galciv2.com
Whenever I get one of those it won't load for me, I get an error about only being able to read stuff there if I had bought Altarian Prophecy. Apparently a Drengin.net subscription in the time frame that it came out in wasn't enough, but that's ok, stardock's server, stardock's call.
But it would be nice if the watchlist links didn't link to places that I can't go...

Hmmm . . . I've used the watchlist feature a few times, but I've never had that problem. Weird. I hope you find out what's up.

Thanks, the watchlist is good mostly, just that one minor thing.

well maybe you can give me some advice...

I am a new user and want to write some of my own Blogs.

Whenever I go to that page to do so via My Account" all that happens is that I end up with an error page that some come back later they doing something to the data base - is there really still a problem or do I need to be doing something different.

I have sent an e mail to the administrators but no reply !

Can u help ?

grapevine: Did you create a blog first? You don't seem to have one to me, which means trying to write articles for it won't work very well. Top of the screen on the front page, should be a link to making your blog. If you've already done that, well then I can't tell you why your getting your error.
Manopeace: I'm thinking it has to do with how they coded the watchlist, but it would be nice if it didn't point to places we can't go.

It probably has to do with the site on which the new reply was posted. IE, a OS customization thread that you subscribed to here is showing up over at WC as well. So if I reply over there (since I spend just as much time there as here), I believe the watch email will link to that WC article. The biggest problem you are running into is the Galactic Civilizations 2 forums. Still connected to JU, right now you can only access the site if you have purchased Gal Civ and Altarian Prophecy. My guess is that is where the problem with those threads comes from.

No the error occurs in trying to make the blog in the first place...

BlueDev: Well that does explain why it does what it does, but I still find it slightly annoying when I get links I can't go to. Maybe it's all part of a plot to get me to spend money?
grapevine: Unfortunatly, I don't have any ideas on how to help you with your problem.

It is all part of Brad's bid to take over the world!
